Last years big gardening issue was Gastropods munching plants.This years gardening issue is plant hydration. With drought conditions and hosepipe bans, gardeners were looking for ways to keep their plants watered.

Let’s focus on this Summer. The WOOL SHrED Garden Felt was a success used as capillary matting. Positive reports came back from a small independent plant grower. Followed by feedback from a customer who is a houseplant lover.

The message from the independent nursery grower was “WOOL SHrED Garden Felt way outperformed the recycled wool capillary matting sold by a commercial wholesaler. WOOL SHrED Garden Felt was still retaining dampness 3 days after it was wet. The same amount of the commercial felt lasted only overnight”.

The houseplant owner who was away on a two week holiday had their houseplants sat on the Garden Felt in their bath. A relative re-watered the felt after one week and all plants were still looking resplendent on return of the houseplant owners. The Garden Felt has been packed away for next holiday.

In the meantime, WOOL SHrED used as hanging basket liner worked its magic for moisture retention. More positive reports were received from customers and gardeners using it.

Looking back on these two big gardening problems in 2024 and 2025 I’m really pleased to say WOOL SHrED was a solution for both slug and snail deterring and water retention.
