About WOOL SHrED
I am Fliss Lewis and I live in Horsham West Sussex. I love sheep! From flock owner to woolly entrepreneur I spend most of my time thinking and talking about sheep and wool products.
I’m passionate about the sustainable, natural, versatile and biodegradable qualities of wool. Wool is a by-product of sheep farming that is currently underused and undervalued. Research indicates that wool is proven to be a great asset for growing in the garden.
In 2019 I decided to create my own business WOOL SHrED – wool for gardening and horticulture.
In 2021 I sourced British black wool after requests from customers who wanted wool that aesthetically blended in with soil and compost. The wool is cleaned and baled then hand filled into bags for gardeners. WOOL ShrED proved popular with my customers at local markets and I started to receive repeat orders.
WOOL SHrED is multifunctional in the garden. It is a natural slug and snail repellent, an aid for water retention, as hanging basket liner, mulch, capillary liner, weed repellent and will then biodegrade, conditioning the soil with Nitrogen. WOOL SHrED is an alternative to more commercial gardening products. Gardeners love how great their plants appear against the colour of WOOL SHrED products.
Alongside the gardening wool, in 2024 I developed a garden felt made entirely from British Hebridean wool after several requests and conversations with plant nurseries and professional gardeners. I have further innovated by using my own Southdown wool for wildlife and podiatry.
I now wholesale WOOL SHrED to small independent shops, plant nurseries, horticultural societies and allotment groups.
